Colonic Irrigation / Hydrotherapy F.A.Q’s

Is it embarrassing?
Not at all. The Practitioner will leave the Treatment room while you remove lower undergarments in privacy and put on a treatment gown. Modesty and confidentiality are maintained at all times.

What does the treatment involve?
Filtered water at a carefully regulated temperature is introduced under gentle gravitational pressure through the rectum into the colon. With special massage techniques, the water softens and cleanses the colon of faecal matter and old deposits which are then piped away with the waste water.

How long does a treatment take?
Actual treatment time is about 30 - 40 minutes but you should plan a total of one hour duration. The first session will be longer as medical history is taken to highlight any existing bowel problems.

Is Colonic Hydrotherapy completely safe and does it hurt?
Treatments are much safer than a common enema and it doesn’t hurt.

How does a Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment compare to an enema?
An enema only reaches the rectum and lower part of the colon, whereas with Colonic Hydrotherapy the entire length of the colon is reached. One Colonic Hydrotherapy treatment is equivalent to 30 enemas.

Is there any possibility of bacterial or viral contamination from prior use of the Colonic Hydrotherapy equipment?
All equipment is fully sterilised according to the requirements of the Association of Colon Hydrotherapist so there is absolutely no danger of contamination.

Does having a menstrual period at the time of a Colonic Hydrotherapy session have any effect on the treatment?
No, it will not affect the success of the treatment

Will I experience any intestinal discomfort after the cleansing?
Usually not, but since the cleansing will stir up a lot of old debris and toxins some people may possibly experience minor nausea or fatigue which will quickly pass.

But don’t I need some friendly bacteria in my colon?
Colonic Hydrotherapy cleansings do not wash out intestinal flora. Taking Acidophilus subsequent to a colon cleanse is beneficial because it helps to improve the bacterial balance in the colon.

Can I work directly after having treatment?
Certainly, you can work just as you would after a regular bowel movement.
