Cholester-Reg® II [Circulatory]. This combination of policosanol, phytosterol (plant sterols), inositol nicotinate (a form of niacin), resveratrol and artichoke powder offers a host of benefits to the heart and the circulatory system. These include maintaining cholesterol levels that are already in the normal range, protection of the heart, antioxidant properties, maintaining already-normal platelet aggregation levels and more.
Policosanol appears to perform a similar action in the body as Chinese red rice extract. Human studies show that policosanol can effectively play a role in maintaining cholesterol levels already in the normal range and that it can help maintain already-normal platelet aggregation (clotting). Studies show that 20 mg policosanol is as effective as 100 mg aspirin in maintaining already-normal platelet aggregation.
The chemical structure of plant sterols is similar to that of cholesterol, so plant sterols compete with the absorption of cholesterol in the body. Excess plant sterols are not absorbed by the body but are eliminated.
Inositol nicotinate helps relax smooth muscles and improves microcirculation. It is particularly effective in maintaining triglyceride levels that are already in the normal range.
Resveratrol has been in the news in recent years for its antioxidant abilities. It also may help promote immune system strength and maintain LDL and triglyceride levels already in the normal range.
Finally, artichoke powder (Cynara scolymus) contains sesquiterpene lactone, cynaropicrin (a strong bitter) and inulin. It benefits the liver and promotes digestion. Artichoke is popular in Europe for its ability to maintain cholesterol levels already in the normal range.
